There are several good stories that can be found on the blog space Technology Bits Bytes & Nibbles created by Ms. Kuhn. I spent some time and one article in particular caught my interest, The Right Level of Ed- Tech Access. After reading it I wrote this response.
Today technology controls our way of life. It is almost an anomaly that someone is not “plugged in”. Here at Kansas State University it is no different; you can walk right through campus and find twenty people very quickly who either are listening to music on an mp3 player or texting to a friend, and I am no better. I know that this world is changing, but I never expected to hear that having a computer in the classroom isn’t enough, “more than 4 in 5 teachers said that technology access falls short of their needs” most of these teachers have access to computers and even with the computer they have in the classroom it is still not enough and that they are left with wanting even more. Personally I am still a bit skeptical about kids having access to all this technology because some parents find it is hard enough to get their kids to go outside to play and explore when then latest TV show is on. I know that this technology would have many positive impacts upon the education system, but I worry that it will morph the way we learn and grow.

Of course many other articles were just as interesting. I am coming to find that having this web space and blog area will be a tremendous help for me as a teacher. I can’t see myself not trying to develop one that is very specific to my classroom and hopefully it will encourage parents to come online more often to find out what their kids are up to.
